Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

We appreciate the opportunity to share with you information about Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD) activities that is relevant to you.

DJD has been extensively studying Canada’s new Anti-Spam Legislation and how it will affect our business practices. There has been a tremendous amount of confusion regarding Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (CASL), and how they will ultimately affect charitable organizations across Canada and their ability to raise funds, so we have made considerable efforts to understand the new legislation and how they apply to DJD.

After much consultation, discussion with colleagues across Calgary and Western Canada, and communications with Imagine Canada and Industry Canada, DJD is taking the following steps:

• We will add our charitable registration number to the informational footer on all of our Commercial Electronic Messages (CEMs).
• We will add web links to both our Privacy Policy and our response to the Anti-Spam legislation to the footer on all of our CEMs.
• We will continue to provide recipients with a clear and prominent option to unsubscribe from our mailing lists on all of our CEMs.
• We will make it easier for patrons of DJD to opt-out of receiving Electronic, Mail, and Phone marketing during the online ticketing order process.
• We will continue to hold to the high standards of our Privacy Policy and respect the wishes of those who do not wish to be contacted.
• We will continue to keep strong records tracking how we come to collect personal information and only send messages relevant to that contact.

DJD has decided to take these actions based on Imagine Canada and Industry Canada’s interpretation on the exemptions granted to registered charities using electronic messages to raise funds.

We value our patrons and their right to privacy, and are committed to ensuring that we honour our patron’s wishes on how you choose to be contacted.
