SEASON IN REVIEW MESSAGE
Wow time flies!
I can’t believe we are already looking back at our 41st season! As usual, we approach our work with big dreams and jump right in, barely coming up for air. We created and performed two new works, this is not unusual, but Rare Beauties (January) was of an ambitious scale in terms of production, we pushed many boundaries and I am so grateful to our production team for helping to make my wildest dreams come true! Matters of Rhythm and Harmony (spring) was two shows in one- the first act- a magic story dance wonderland created by company dancer Sabrina Comanescu- her first full length work for us, bravo Sabrina! and act 2, a storm of choreography and improvisation choreographed/directed by yours truly- asking the dancers to work in ways left more to chance than ever! I’m proud of us all for our bravery, trust and tenacity, not just artists and production staff but all other staff too. The DJD school continues to grow and change, our Professional Training Program- while unable to exist at normal capacity last season- adapted and thrived. Our Youth Training Program continues to find its footing and grow. We hosted Creative Residencies, Artists in Residence, Resident Artists in our studios, the theatre was booked to capacity…we are a small but mighty team working in a jazz ecosystem together.
So, thank you DJD team, and if you are reading this- you are part of this ecosystem as well. Thank you for being a part of it, for believing in it and for improvising along with us!
