Spring Jazz Intensive
June 2-6, 2026
The DJD Dance Centre is a home for jazz dance to live and thrive and as such, we invite dancers from across the globe to come and experience jazz today and dream about what it can be in the future. DJD strives to cultivate a solid understanding of the history of jazz dance and music while building a high standard of jazz technique that emphasizes stylistic and vernacular nuance. The Spring Intensive, taught by DJD artistic leaders along with current and past company members, will introduce dancers to the DJD aesthetic and philosophy and will work to build a jazz community that spreads far and wide.

Immerse yourself in the DJD aesthetic that is based in a rooted jazz philosophy that honours the rich history of the form; one that is grounded in its movement choices, borrows from an Africanist aesthetic, prioritizes rich rhythmic play and an authentic response to the music, allows for the influences from codified jazz techniques, and continues to innovate while carving a path into the future.
