LETS TALK: MARATHON! DANCE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, JOANNE BAKER SHARES HER THOUGHTS.
I have attended, taught, or participated in every Dance Class Marathon since 1993. Back in that first year, I was an apprentice dancer with the DJD Company and the Marathon ran over 3 days – Friday night to Sunday night. DJD had just moved into our new facility on 4th street after many great years on 10th street NW. The Marathon was an initiative that was geared to dancers of all levels, introduced people to different styles, and brought people into our new home. I remember dancing in so many great classes that weekend! I had recently returned to Calgary after time away in Ontario to go to University, so not only was I proud to represent the DJD Company, it was awesome to see and meet so many people dancing in the community.
And now, as we look forward to hosting our 24th Dance Class Marathon, I am so excited for so many of our regular “Marathoners” to step foot into our new home. I can’t wait for them to check out the view from Studio 5, dance on the beautiful floors in Studio 1, and feel they are “up on stage” in Studio 2. The DJD Dance Centre promises to make this years Marathon the best yet!
