PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM
For the 2018/2019 season, DJD is offering an intensive four-month training experience, dedicated to the development of skilled and knowledgeable jazz dance artists. The program runs Monday to Friday, September to December, with three hours of training each day. Participants study Jazz, Tap, Jazz Improvisation, West African, Swing, Latin, Core Strength, Jump Rhythm Jazz Style, DJD Repertoire, Jazz History and Jazz Music Appreciation.
The dancers of the Professional Training Program experience a style of jazz dance that is unique to DJD. The DJD Company is dedicated to exploring, evolving and promoting the art of jazz dance. PTP participants are consistently exposed to the artistry of the company’s dancers and choreographers and most of the instructors in the program are former DJD company members who are committed and passionate educators. The program cultivates a high technical standard that emphasizes stylistic and vernacular nuance as well as individual expression both as dancers and jazz choreographers.
With the program accepting only 10 to 15 students each year, the emphasis is on individual growth and development. Students receive continuous individual feedback and guidance that encourages them to strive for excellence and attain their full potential as dance artists.
There is one performance opportunity for the 2018/19 PTP dancers. This is an in-studio showing of works-in-progress choreographed by program instructors as well as pieces from the vast DJD repertoire.
dancers are still being accepted into the program for the 2018/2019 season
