Borderland – Rubens Inspiration

Friday, January, 30, 2015

The name of my piece is “Love is Water.” This piece is about sadness and struggle. In Brazil I have done dance research based on the theme of love, and I decided to continue my research in that direction.

The dancers are dancing to a bossa nova. To me, the bossa nova can be both sad and beautiful and possess strength and listlessness all at the same time.

This song was originally composed by Vinicius de Moraes, the man considered to be the “father” of bossa nova. He always said that to be able to do a samba beautifully, one had to know sadness also.

If you want to know more about my dance, here are some thoughts for you to ponder…

Think about love, about your beloved. Now think about the few moments before you say “I love you” for the first time to that person…

This piece is about that.
