Rhythmic Reflections: Rhythm Addiction
This week, we look back at Unplugged (1993), Rhythm Addiction (1993), and Two-Way Stretch (1994)—three productions that brought movement, rhythm, and innovation to DJD’s stage.
Rhythm Addiction pulsed with energy, capturing the deep connection between rhythm and movement. Choreographed by Michèle Moss, Vicki Adams Willis, Claudia Carolina, Heather Cornell, Hannah Stilwell, and Sudha Thakkar, the production featured an incredible cast: Kimberley Cooper, Manuel Correia, Brian Michael Hansen, Joanne Irving, Alanna Jones, Tania Kelba, Michèle Moss, Sherrie Scherger, and Hannah Stillwell.
The show wouldn’t have been possible without the talented musicians who performed alongside the dancers. This week, Musician, Musical Director, and Composer Dewi Wood reflects on the experience:
“The driving beats of this show were impossible to ignore—it was a full-body experience, both for the dancers and the audience. The connection between rhythm and movement felt electric, creating something truly unforgettable.”
Unplugged hit the Uptown Stage from October 19-23, 1993, bringing raw energy, live music, and electrifying jazz dance to the forefront.
Two-Way Stretch (1994) pushed and pulled at the edges of jazz dance, blending structured form with moments of free-flowing improvisation. Choreographed by Brian Hansen, Manuel Correia, Hannah Stillwell, Michèle Moss, and Vicki Adams Willis, the production featured an outstanding cast: Kimberley Cooper, Manuel Correia, Brian Hansen, Joanne Irving, Alanna K. Jones, Tania Kelba, Michèle Moss, Sherrie Scherger, and Hannah Stillwell.
