Rare Beauties Track List: Behind the Score

A show like this starts long before opening night, and the score shapes so much of what the audience feels and experiences in the theatre. The music in Rare Beauties carries the work through its shifts, grooves, and emotional extremes, helping build the atmosphere, pace, and transformation that unfolds onstage.

Artistic Director Kim Cooper spent extensive time researching and curating the score, selecting pieces that have lived in her library for years  waiting for the right moment to be choreographed.

From Artistic Director Kim Cooper on her music selections:

“I spend uncountable hours researching music. The score for Rare Beauties took ages to compile. Some of these tunes have been floating around in my library for years waiting to be choreographed to. I listen to this music until I know it intimately. I could sing it to you.

Perhaps I’m old fashioned, I don’t use streaming services and buy music through iTunes, Bandcamp, or directly from the artists as much as possible. I urge you to support live music and buy from artists as much as you can. Enjoy this beautiful music!”

Rare Beauties is on stage at the DJD Dance Centre through January 25 as part of One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo. If you haven’t experienced it live yet, there’s still time.
