People of DJD: Jasmine Almaguer Sheldrick
Meet Jasmine! Jasmine was a dancer in our Professional Training Program and performed in DJD’s annual showcase, Footprints. Read below to see what she had to say about her experience in the program and preparing for the stage!
1. What is your favourite class you’ve taken as part of the PTP Program?
My favourite class in PTP is jazz. I know that may sound cliché but I really enjoyed learning many different styles and jazz techniques. DJD introduced me to jazz movements I was familiar with but forgot about and a lot of new ones as well. I really grew as a dancer in the jazz classes. I worked on my groove, technique and artistry.
2. What has your experience been like preparing for the show after a couple years of not performing?
Preparing for a live show after 2 years of virtual shows has been so exciting! This year’s group are such wonderful dancers and are such hard workers. It’s definitely been physically demanding but there is so much great energy and fun in our rehearsals that we are ready and thrilled for our show.
3. What is your favourite thing you’ve learned/gained from the Program?
My favourite thing gained was the opportunity to connect with this community. I really enjoyed my time in the PTP program. I was able to meet so many interesting and knowledgeable people. I learned many new things and tried new dance styles. I was able to do multiple live performances and best of all I got to get up and dance everyday!
