The Professional Training Program (PTP) at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks is an eight-month intensive training experience dedicated to the development of skilled and knowledgeable jazz dance artists. Running Monday to Friday from September to May, participants study Jazz, Tap, Jazz Improvisation, West African, Swing, Latin, Core Strength, Jump Rhythm Jazz Style, DJD Repertoire, Jazz History, and Jazz Music Appreciation.

Meet Jocelyn!

1. Where are you from and how long have you been in the PTP?

I was born and raised in Calgary, but have been living away for the past 6 years in Toronto and London, UK. This is my first year in the PTP.

2. What has this year been like being back in the studio? How has movement helped you through?

I am incredibly grateful to be back in the studio in these times. Dancing, and particularly choreographing, often feels like journaling to me; there are things that need to come out, statements that need to be made.

3. How has your program experience been so far and what has changed in your relationship to jazz dance?

The program has encouraged me to sit more into the music and allow myself to move and be moved without judgement, particularly in our work in Vicki’s improvisation class. I have loved jazz for many years, but the program has enabled me to be immersed in its deliciousness and vibrancy.
