Where are they now? Kathleen Doherty – Professional Traing Program Alumni

Kathleen Doherty was a student in DJD’s Professional Training Program from 2009-2011. Since returning home to Halifax in 2012, Kathleen has been very active in the local dance community as a dancer, choreographer, improviser, teacher, director and administrator. She is co-founder and Artistic Director of Votive Dance, founded in 2012 to provide more choreographic and performance opportunities for professional dance artists. Kathleen is currently in her third season as an apprentice with Mocean Dance, and this year her apprenticeship will include a creation process to choreograph a new work with mentorship from Sara Coffin. In 2014 Kathleen co-founded and led the improvised music and dance ensemble VERGE, who recently performed as a part of the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, and are currently creating a new show to be presented in 2016 by suddenlyLISTEN Music. Kathleen is Administrative Director for Kinetic Studio, a works in progress series & support services organization for dance artists of Nova Scotia. She has received funding from The Canada Council for the Arts, and Arts Nova Scotia for various projects, and was the 2015 recipient of the Diane Moore Creation Scholarship from Live Art Dance. Kathleen has toured to Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Moncton and Saint John for performances and professional development. She is so proud to call Nova Scotia home, and be an active member of the Halifax dance community. Kathleen is a member of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists (Ontario Chapter).
