An important goal of the School of Decidedly Jazz is accessibility for everyone in the community so they can experience the joy of dance. To this end, we have a couple of programs to assist individuals who wish to take a class:
Children's Bursary Program
Children ages 2 -17 from low-income families are eligible to receive financial assistance to attend a summer camp or class during the fall or winter session. DJD works with several social agencies, inner city schools and other organizations to select deserving children. A limited number of bursaries are available and are distributed on a first come, first-served basis.
This program is made possible thanks to the generosity of Chip & Barb Burgess, CIBC, the Harry & Martha Cohen Foundation and other individual donors.
In order to be considered for a bursary, an application must be submitted by:
- June 1st for Summer Camps (ages 5 - 16)
- August 15th for Fall (ages 2 - 17)
- January 15th for Winter (ages 2 - 17)
For more information, contact Jennica Willis, our Dance School Manager.
Contra Program
The Contra Student Program allows students to enroll in any class without paying tuition. In exchange for these classes, students commit to working specific events and fundraising campaigns. You "work" for DJD at Bingos, Casinos and Special Events, earn hours towards a class and then spend your time dancing to your heart's delight.
All Contra students must be 18 years of age, although a parent or guardian can work events in exchange for their child's class. For more information and to enroll in the DJD Contra Student Program, contact our Volunteer Coordinator. |
