Class Levels & Descriptions
Adult & Teen Class Levels
There are classes especially for teens (13-17 yrs), however they may also participate in adult classes at the appropriate level.
Teen
For dancers with little or no previous dance experience. Learn the
basics of technique, as well as an introduction to rhythms and
movements.
Intro
For dancers with little or no previous dance experience. Learn the basics of technique, as well as an introduction to rhythms and movements.
Level 1 and 1.5
For those with at least one full year at the introductory level, who are ready for further exploration at a faster pace. Level 1.5 will move students a little faster and is for those with a minimum of one full year at Level 1.
Level 2 and 2.5
Designed to build solid technique and good form. Work is increasingly complex and quickly paced. Level 2 is for students with a minimum of two full years at Level 1. Level 2.5 is for students with at least one to two full years at Level 2, who are not quite ready to move to Level 3
Level 3
For dancers with solid technique and considerable experience in the appropriate dance form. Jazz dancers at this level who are new to the DJD style may be recommended to register in Jazz 2 or 2.5
Please Note: For the safety and enjoyment of all, and for the proper progression of the class, students at the wrong level will be moved to a more appropriate level during the first few classes of the session.Adult & Teen Class Descriptions
Afro Cuban – Explore the popular dances of Cuba (Son, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo) along with traditional folkloric dances. Taught by Cuba native, Ingrid Diaz!
Ballet – Our ballet classes provide students with the correct tools to enhance posture, strength, flexibility and alignment. A fun and encouraging environment promises to help you find your inner Karen Kain!
Bellydance – Get ready to shake those hips and believe in your beautiful body! Share the passion of Bellydance with this flirty, aerobic, sensual and strength building class.
Bollywood – High energy, lively choreography, inspired teaching by Vishal Malpuria….Bollywood is tons of fun and challenging with its fun and flirty connection to the music.
Bolly Hip Hop - Get ready to Bolly Hip Hop! Plain and simple, it is a fusion of Bollywood dancing and hip hop. You will leave feeling pumped up and energized!
Breaking –Find your inner B-boy or B-girl. Challenge yourself with this physical street dance foundation. Haven’t you always wanted to learn how to “baby freeze?”
Dance Hall –Intoxicating moves from the Jamaican culture along with Hip Hop and African movements are the components of this contagiously fun dance class
Funk –Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown, Earth Wind and Fire….just a few of the amazing funk bands that will provide the backdrop to this super fun class. Funk master, Corinne Vessey will groove you up exploring social dances and funk foundations that came out of the 70’s.
Groove & Tone Funk - Come funk it up with a great dance class exploring funk styles and social dance with the added benefit of strength and toning exercises! Guaranteed to work up a sweat while staying "cool"!
Groove & Tone Hip Hop –A hip hop class that explores the variety of styles within the hip hop spectrum with added emphasis on arm strength and core/abdominal stability. A great way to spend your winter Wednesday nights!
Hip Hop –Delve into the culture, music and dance that is Hip Hop! Our teaching team provide high energy and focused classes that will introduce foundation elements of hip hop along with freestyle grooves!
FRIDAY DROP IN CLASS: Hip Hop Combos – Friday 5:00-6:00
Join Ashley Brodeur for this drop-in style class that will provide students the opportunity to learn a different hip hop routine each week. Drop in anytime! Before you hit the dance clubs, hit DJD!
FRIDAY DROP IN CLASS: Hip Hop Diva Style – Friday 6:00-7:00
Discover the feminine side of hip hop with this weekly drop-in class that will concentrate on an efficient warm up and choreography.
House –Danced to House music, this high energy class will introduce its main styles including footwork and jacking, but will also emphasize footwork and the inherent improvisational nature of the dance. So much fun!
Jazz and Jazz Foundations – Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, swing, funk, latin styles – all of these people and dance forms have 1 thing in common: a DJD jazz class!
Modern/Contemporary – Learned sequences incorporate fall and release, rolling, and the body's response to gravity. Personal style and freedom to explore dynamic range are strongly encouraged.
Tap – Come 'shuffle off to Buffalo', 'flap', 'riff', and 'roll'. Tap is the ultimate in rhythm training, a wonderful tradition that is easy on the body and loads of fun!
West African –Join our well-traveled teaching team and immerse yourself in the rhythms, dances and songs of West Africa. Classes are accompanied by our wonderful drumming ensemble. Some exploration of movement from other places such as Haiti, Cuba and Brazil may be included.
