Patrons in the Jazz Roots Club have a direct relationship with DJD's artists and are vital contributors to bringing original jazz works to life and to the lives of others. Created in 2004 in celebration of DJD's 20th Anniversary, the Jazz Roots Club offers opportunities for individual donors to develop a closer connection to DJD’s artists and activities. As a patron, you will enjoy special behind-the-scenes experiences and expand your network while directly investing in DJD’s continued growth and success. Click here to see who belongs.
The Jazz Roots Club is vital because as a registered charity, less than 17% of our operating revenues come from government support. DJD relies on community support to produce extraordinary, affordable evenings of dance and music that captivate and invigorate, offer educational programs reaching thousands of school children every year and remain a vibrant leader in Calgary’s arts community.
The highlight each season is our Exclusive Jazz Roots Club Celebration at which we explore one of the influences that defines DJD's innovative style. Our latest celebration was in March 2009 at Divino Wine & Cheese Bistro.

Jazz Roots Club Benefits
Cake Walkers ($500-999)The Cake Walk was a high-strutting, competitive dance originated by plantation slaves (the best dancers won a cake).

- Invitation for 2 to the Exclusive Annual Jazz Roots Club Reception in the spring of 2009. Join our artists and friends for an intimate and entertaining evening exploring the evolution of jazz. Laugh, learn some history and enhance your appreciation of jazz. (Invitation will be mailed in January).
- 2 tickets to attend the Alchemy Dress Rehearsal on November 17, 2008 and twentyfive Dress Rehearsal on June 2, 2009 - available upon request. We encourage you to consider hosting prospective Jazz Roots Club donors.
- Access to the private Jazz Roots Club Lounge with host bar and private coat check - open one hour before the show and during intermission at designated DJD performances (twentyfive only).

Rug Cutters ($1,000 – 2,499)
The term used to describe a very good swing dancer, the most popular dance style in the 1920’s, 30’s & 40’s

The flattened notes fundamental to blues-orientated jazz & the name of a famous record label

Big Easies ($5,000-9,999)
“The Big Easy” is the nickname of New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz.
